A low profile plug is required with Turbo engines because of the internal pan baffling fitted to the pan, but of course it is equally effective on Non Turbo Engines as well.

2014' OUTBACK and Forester: Fill and Drain plug for rear Differential. Check earlier years for sizes: Remove fill plug and see if it has a gasket or not. The M18 has a straight thread with a gasket, the larger 3/4"JNPT is tapered and has no gasket.
